In the End


He laughed a great laugh at the moon's white light
as tears fell from his bright blue eyes
it was a beautiful moment for his very last night
he was intensely quiet as he pondered his life

He had a view of the water from across the bay
the lights from cars passed on the highway
his eyes drifted to the woman at his right
his heart beat with a love he was unable to fight

He lay in bed and closed his eyes
as the doctor's voice replayed in his mind
“It's been a pleasure serving you.”
this would be his last breath, he knew
