In The Mirror

By Alice

I went out in search of
Something to cherish.

In the garden blooms a beautiful flower.
I went to it.
Then, I found the bug laden stalk.

Saw a mighty elephant, admired its strength.
Then, around its legs was the chain.
It couldn’t move a yard.

Out of my labour pushed out a bag of coins.
Then, it slipped off my hands, fell into the river,
Couldn’t trace it back.

In front of the audience was a learned man.
Listened to his insightful thoughts.
Then, I heard a shot, he fell on the ground.

Nothing I could find, entered my room,
Stood in front of the mirror,
And there! I found the one to cherish!

In the mirror! A bright soul!
Inside a rusty frame.
