In the Shadows

I hide in the shadows
of who they want me to be.
Rarely do I show my true colors,
a sincere version of me.
They think that I’m happy,
fun loving, wild, and free.
But little do they know
I’m trapped in a world
that no one else can see.
I say that I’m great,
that my world is complete.
But I’m dying inside,
and I want to break free.
The mirror is my nemesis,
I don’t want to see the truth.
I am lost in deception,
but my facade is full proof.
Why ask the questions
when I don’t want to hear the answers?
Why try to predict the future,
when life has no guarantees,
only broken promises,
fears,
and missed chances?
