Inconspicuous Shadows

Inconspicuous shadows

Tonight I’ll fall asleep, my heart heavy
Weighed down by inky darkness
Shadows keeping me awake,
Hauntingly pursuing my heart, sleepless
I lie, scrambling to hide the broken pieces
You recklessly left behind, so careless.
They hunt on my heels but I give them a chase
I dare not succumb, too restless
Despite the memories of you so raw.
Shadows pull at me, relentless
Ripping rapture at the seams
I won’t scream, I’d rather play fearless
Only the stars know my burning pain
Lost in a midnight sky so endless
My only escape a stolen dream
A short-lived solace, vague and aimless
As the infallible warriors of slumber
Die on my pillow, wistfully harmless
Stained innocence, indisputable deceit
Of which I’ll bear the scars, lifeless.
