Independence Day

I raised our flag once again today.
It represents a freedom we have been given
men and women off to fight a war
so we can keep the lives we are living.
Independence Day celebrates freedom,
courage, bravery, - Our Country.
a reminder of a life we can all call our own.
Only today when I raised our flag,
I have never felt so alone.
There were no fireworks, no parades or parties.
just thoughts of one brave man and a son who
had come home to say goodbye,
each fighting a different war.
A father whose courage inspired others to
fight to live,
a son who must protect and serve.
I fly our flag with pride for father and son,
husband, brother, nephew, uncle, friend, pepe
for I have seen the bravery it takes
to finally get the freedom
we all feel we deserve when the war comes to an end.
He taught us to celebrate what we have now
today. Fight for what we believe in,
though it may be with caution and mistrust.
We must always know we have within ourselves a
courage among us to love, share and go on -
We must.
