Darkness surrounds me
Rats scurry in glee
Dampness reeks
Been now two weeks
My innocence is lost
Guilty is the cost,
Someone else runs free
But it is not me
Footsteps coming near
Now cringing in fear
Sweat trickles down
Huge guards uplift me, no frown
Echoes ring out, down the row
Feet dragging, as we go
in the room, awaits the chair
Shackled shameless, people stare
Hood in place, to hide my face
Words are said, clock strikes noon
Lever is dropped, current sent
Death comes, body limp, head bent
Phone rings, Warden shakes his head
Found their man, too late!
