Nestled in town, a house between two pines
Small in small;
Between the trees, inside the house
Small in small;
Trapped between four faceless walls
Small in small;
Identified; Defined within these child-chalked lines
Small in small;
Blurred-out; incased within this mask menagerie
Small in small;
Sputtering; smoldering light free but burning out
Small in small;
Tongue in mouth, mind in skull
Small in small;
Gasping, gaping hole in chest
Small in small;
Yet to realize fully
What has made me whole—
God’s breath in my soul.
All: Deep-cut lines, growth rings,
beautiful faces, crowning a resurgent flame—
God’s breath in my soul.
Perfect fit. Still and steady.
All in all. Big in small.
