It Could’ve Been Me

The one who got pinned down;
Unable to breathe,
Unable to react,
Unable to defend,
That could’ve been me.

The one who screamed but was not heard;
Pushing away,
Hopeless in the eyes of the predator,
Praying for my escape,
That could’ve been me.

The one who saw no harm in him,
Who let him abuse me,
Touch me,
Manipulate me,
That could’ve been me.

The one who confessed to abuse;
But was not heard,
Was not acknowledged,
Was not believed,
That could’ve been me.
