It Matters

We didn't sign up for the life we've had,
We didn't get to choose our mom or dad,
We didn't get to choose the name we have,
Or even the day our birth would land.
We didn't choose the body we'd get,
And we didn't know if we'd be girls or men.
But what we do get, are the choices we make,
We get to choose which path to take,
We get to choose which friends will stay,
And we get to choose which words to say.
We have a choice of how we act,
We have a choice of where we stand,
We didn't sign up for the life we've had,
But we have a choice of how it lasts.
It matters what you're doing now,
It matters how you'll reach the clouds,
And even if you're falling down,
It only matters how you'll bounce.
We get to choose how we'll react,
Happiness or being sad,
And when the rain is in your lap,
We get to choose if we will dance.
It doesn't matter where you've been,
It doesn't matter how much sin,
It doesn't matter how you've LIVED,
It only matters how you'll LIVE.
