It Was You

It Was You

The years before I knew you
Now seem so far away.
Smiles, love, and happiness
Would never come my way.

I walked the woods alone back then
Looking for a sign
That something good would happen soon,
Something truly mine.

The moon at night would capture me
And cover me with light
But I'd awake in morning's dawn
With no new hope in sight.

Time passed back then, unknown to me
As each day looked the same.
Color drained from everything,
Life seemed a dismal game.

Then one day, in my life of grey,
A great change came to me.
Someone walked into my life
And cleared my eyes to see.

She gave me back my joy of life
And her love said something true.
The only thing I had never known:
The answer was always you.
