It’s Never Just

It's never just a life
Not to a cop in blue
With a split second to choose.
Nor to the family in black
With a folded flag in hand
And a soldier in the ground.

It's never just death
To the young children asking
About those who are gone.
Nor to the older generation
The ones who fought in war
The ones who made it home.

It's never just a war
To the soldiers
Dressed in camouflage.
Nor to the soldiers
Dressed in jeans and t-shirts,
Fighting to be strong.

It's never just freedom
To those who know
What it really means.
Nor to those who
Have given themselves
To pay that cost.
