Just Because I’m a Teenager

Just because I'm a teenager doesn't mean I'm oblivious
When having a discussion, please ask me my opinion
I can state my opinion and back it up with facts
When I can't, I need a guiding hand, not a stern fist
Don't tell me I'm too young to understand, teach me
How am I to learn without a teacher

Just because I'm a teenager doesn't mean I'm a follower
Liking popular things does not make me a stereotype
Don't tell me what to do or say or like or wear
Our likes and dislikes define us, but don't generalize me
I stand out; not in a good way, not in a bad way
But in my own way
