Just by looking at me

Just by looking at me, can you tell the places I've been?
No, I'm not talking about trips around the world, I'm talking about the story behind the poor little lost girl.
Can you tell I'm the product of two addicts?
And what I've seen some of you can't even fathom.
Just by looking at me, can you tell death has surrounded me like no other?
No, I'm not talking about grandparents, aunts and uncles.
I'm talking about my daughter and her father.
Can you see the pain behind my eyes? How I've been used and abused by way to many?
Yet each and every day I choose to smile.
Just by looking at me, can you tell I had dreams?
No, I'm not talking about dreams while sleep. I'm talking about dreams of being successful and feeling complete.
Can you see the determination I carry within?
Not to be defined by the choices and mistakes I've made? Or the way my fleshly body has sinned.
Just by looking at me, can you tell I'm a strong woman?
No, I'm not talking about strength from lifting weights or exercise.
I'm talking about strength from what I've been through.
How I've pushed past stereotypes, cliches and the judgement of others.
I'm talking about strength to reach all that I want to pursue.
