Just Living

By S. West

Life is a breath
through my mask
And another, and another
Life is communication and avoidance
The gears that corona has ground
to a halt
A strain in the tendon of the big leagues
Fear spasms
But, there is some good
in the vicissitudes of fate,
in the wait
for stillness on the frontlines
How there is stillness
before tragedy
COVID is what you make of it
Not everyone wants to
survive
Even when they're just living
The world is a climber,
trying to propel off of a hand, a foot
as the rock crumbles
I can't wait to swing
up and out of this
