King Pheasant

bronze-pinioned, ruby-jeweled belly
lifted off fawn feathers
across the macadam
across the gunmetal gray concrete
the king pheasant makes flight
green gleaming, sparking, off his wing tips

he is chocolate brownness
he's yellow lusciousness
scarlet, azure, emerald
he is glass, precious stone,
he is gold

the blue bell of heaven arches only for him
as he rises, golden
across the roadway of black macadam
away from the gun metal gray concrete
away from the gunmetal gray
away from the gunmetal
away from the gun
