Kiss You Goodnight

Your mother holds you
For the first time, you open your eyes
You learn to cry because you're birthed to life
I'll be gone for two more years
I pray you will go to sleep tonight
I'll kiss you goodnight

I'm sorry but I'm shipping out again
It'd feel like a thousand years passed
I promise I will be home someday
Together at last
And I'll sing you your lullaby
I know you'll be alright
Because tonight I'll kiss you goodnight

I'll leave behind my lucky necklace
So you won't forget who I am
Just in case I don't make it back
A few more days
I'll miss you and you'll miss me
But princess, please, go to sleep tonight
I'll shut the door behind
