Learning the Hard Way

What is joy without sorrow from which to escape?
The victimized feel compassion.
The shrouded see the truth.
The marshalled take the lead.
The feeble find fortitude.
The wrathful reach serenity.
The deprived grasp prosperity.
But the pariah...
The pariah becomes the broken.
But he who is broken is not lost.
He is a phoenix.
For from the ashes of his sorrow he attains new light.
And it is from that light that he comes to know joy.
