Let It Be

Let It Be

So many years of dieting,
Torturing and molding my body
To be the right size,
Shape, and look.
I became slim, sleek and tan
And looked in the mirror
To see who I was.
Mind and spirit were neglected
In favor of the deified body.

Other women’s wisdom
Finally reached my reason.
Integrate body, mind and spirit
And you will be a
Whole person, they said.
The body is a vessel, not
The essence of the person.

Rebellion took many forms.
No make-up, only comfortable shoes,
Dieting verboten, clothes that feel good.
No sleek silver sports car
But a comfortable safe vehicle
To transport me through life.
