Liberty’s Tale

She gave freely at life's dawn
Long before our journey to conquer and discover begun
Long before our footprints became an entity
She gave each, our compass to find destiny

She took our hungry and needy gave them sanctuary where she found fit
In a place where hope was not yet lit,
We roamed freely in her flora and fauna until
Greed and bigotry became our fill

Pillaging and plundering shire by shire.
O Liberty! Her eternal gift made fickle
Through war and battle.
When did she will her riches to us

To decide and divide without merciful pause
There she stands on the cold shores of our conscience
Beckoning her freedom's embrace
Freely as she gave to us once.
