Lies We Chose to Believe

I follow you because
gravity has its claws in all of us.
And I love you because
I don't know how to love myself.
Falling was like flying:
free, but
limited to the skies.
After all,
once you hit the ground,
you're not really falling anymore,
are you?
I listen to the silence because
its lies are so easy to believe when
something inside me whispers
much the same thing.
Drowning was like breathing:
free, but
only until I realized that
once you
fill your lungs with water,
you can't empty them
ever again.
