Life as Always Lived

Disease. It spreads like wildfire, brings nations to its knees.
Murder. Runs rampant in the streets, terrifying all who
encounter it.
Thievery. Keeps everyone on high alert, precautions are taken.
Rape. Keeps women living in fear, never feeling wholly safe.
Drugs. Kills so many, but involves everybody in its twisted game.
Racism. All our created equal, though some will not admit.
Life as always lived involves violence and discrimination
while trying to maintain
an eternal innocence. Life as always lived will never be fair
or completely safe,
but must be accepted for survival.
