Life Or Death

"Life, or death?" Written By-Me
"Life, or death?," I always straddled the fence, but now life seems to make perfect sense.
It only makes sense because I let you go, but there is one last thing you should know.
You held the key to my soul for seven years, and with you, I had no fears.
You turned my heart ice cold, from all of the lies that you told.
You had complete control over me; Reality, I could not see.
It was you and I; You were the only thing that I cared for, and that I cannot deny.
I was loyal only to you; For you, there was nothing that I would not do.
However, you betrayed me, despite my loyalty to you, but if it wasn't for you, freedom I never would have knew.
It took everything that you did to me, for me to be happy, and free.
You see, I was confined by my mind; It took you to set me free from that bind.
I was broken and lost; Ultimately, seven years with you were what my freedom cost.
Ironic, is how this will sound, but you are the reason I was so lost, and the reason that I am now found.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to be in the mental state of despair; Now, I am grateful to know that my heart, my mind, and my soul needed repair.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to sleep on the streets; Now, I am grateful for the smaller things, such as bedsheets.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to starve, and endure gnawing hunger pain; Now, I am grateful for every meal, and every pound that I gain.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to lose my rights as a mother; Now, I am grateful for every second that I spend with my daughter, and her brother.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to witness how cold the world can be; Now, I am grateful for those that truly love me.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to be beaten, used, and bruised; Now, I am grateful for those whom help the abused.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to be pronounced dead from an overdose; Now, I am grateful for paramedics, nurses, and doctors whom save lives from remaining in a permanent comatose.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to have nothing but the clothes on my back, and the shoes on my feet; Now, I am grateful for the ability to keep my appearance neat.
It only because of you, that I know what it is like to have freedom of choice stripped from me; Now, I am grateful to have a voice, and be the real me that everyone can see.
It is only because of you, that I know what it is like to experience how real the spiritual warfare is; Now, I am grateful that you led me to GOD, and he calls me HIS.
HEROIN, it is only because of you, that I know what it is like to have gratitude; Now, I am grateful to have been blessed with a new attitude.
"Life, or death?," I always straddled the fence, but now life seems to make perfect sense.
