Life Tipped Over


Life tipped over,
contents spilling out
through fingers
of outstretched hands,
past hopeful eyes.
All went still-
a stunning silence
enclosed bowed heads
and empty palms,
until a hand reached out
and entwined itself
with mine;
soon becoming
a multitude of hands
encircling,
enfolding,
as a mother
would embrace
a newborn child.

The world
began to turn
once again-
