Life’s Direction

If I could choose my life's direction
I would live mine in reverse
I'd start knowing all my ambitions
The moment I stepped from the hearse

I'd know of my parents' misfortunes
And guide them along to my birth
Get treatments before my addictions
And revel in all that I'm worth

I would watch as the ocean waves tumble
As they rapidly roll back to sea
And the autumn leaves wouldn't need raking
They'd just fall right back to the tree

The wars would already be over
The past lay and wait to undo
I'd read the events in the paper
And know what the world would go through

Then look back on those few special moments
That now lay ahead in my life
And watch as my children grow younger
They can't always stay big, says my wife

All the friends that I've missed would return soon
And I'd never again be uncouth
If I could choose my life's direction
I'd go from my age to my youth
