Life’s Fight

From the land they called home,to shores unknown,
they suffered,they cried,they prayed.
While cotton picking, yard sweeping, through back whippings
they suffered and they prayed.
They fought for rights, equality and a chance to live life,
which came at a price,
yet they held their heads up high and prayed.
From lawyers, to teachers, doctors and senators they fought
and fought to make a way.
What a long and tiring journey just to live a life of freedom,
a life of opportunities,
a life to pave the road for those ahead ,to make a way.
Let's not forget the oceans of blood,
let's not forget the blazing sun and blistering fingers
the backs of the weak and strong.
Let's us live, let us prove, let us continue this journey
for there are many more ahead, let us make way.
Let us always remember those who suffered for us,
when we lift or heads up high and pray.
