Life’s Lessons

In a classroom that stood the expanse of time,
In a place that was so much more than physical.
With a teacher as invisible as the air that we breeze
but as invincible as the wind over tormented seas,
I have learnt life's lessons.

With the chance to learn from my mistakes,
With the hope to achieve and win the never-ending race,
On a road that traversed the highways of chance
but a gnawing feeling that this might be the last dance
I have learnt life's lessons.

On a journey informed by the past,
On a path stretching towards my destiny,
Through what seemed at times the thickest of nights
but whose morning sun rose like a curtain
I have learnt life's lessons.

Through the pain and the gain,
Through sighs and ongoing tries,
Alongside foes who craved my demise
but also friends who lifted my spirits
I have learnt life's lessons.
