Lifetime

What a magnificent timepiece you are,
So incredibly patient
When separating a tick from a tock
Timing our births and deaths precisely.

I wonder how
You make vacations a heartbeat,
Yet a test an eternity.
It's incredible how
We can't twitch, stop, or mess with you
Yet you can stress, bring joy, and even control us.

Don't you worry about
Getting tired and
Stopping for a while,
If it happens,
You'll still be right
Twice a day.

Your every tick and your every tock
Remind me that
We must enjoy life to
The fullest, as just
A tick or a tock
Can be a lifetime.
