Lift Your Eyes

Lift your eyes. Look on the world.
Mark the lives that move undisturbed,
that roam to and from place to place.

Days pass, some quick, some slow,
most mundane, when tragedy strikes so
unexpected. Uninvited. Unwelcome.

Oh, what of the equalizer of all things?
Death. It comes in equity!
It sees not color, age, gender, nor sex.
It raises a scythe on high, shining
victorious, three times ground pounding
uncontested! Undefeated! Undeniable!

See how these sorrows, cries, anguish, and pain
are mere, are natural parts of the same
reality? On and on the world twirls in motion.
Yet, emotion remains despite knowledge
common. Despite well expected ills, pain
tortures the mind, sears the soul, deadens the body.

So! Lift your eyes. Look on the world.
Mark the lives that move undisturbed,
That roam to and from place to place.
