Lighthouses


We stared out from the stern
Asked the waves where we were heading
The wind whispered words we'd yet to learn
In ears stung red with razor burn
Salt clinging to our bedding

We sat and prayed for lighthouses
For sandy soles and words that didn’t rhyme
We cursed and hoped by meteors
Washed our clothes in wine
We forgot what we remembered
We were what we forgot
We trained blind eyes to not realize
We all had what we sought
And we are
