Light’s Shadow

Night’s long tendrils reached deep into the day
Reaching to whisk light’s long life away.
For the presence of the dark scares most.
For others, the dark just pulls them close.

For me, the reaction is quite mixed
For I fear both as they crawl upon me every day
The night is full of creepy crawlies
While the day is full of fun and folly.

It is when the lights grow dim and share their spotlight with shadows
For when I imagine the worst in that one murky alcove.
For I remember the time of death
That light’s shadow landed upon my grandmother’s stiff corpse dress.
