Loneliness

It haunts me like a spirit,
stalks me like a shadow.
It's a cold damp presence,
beside me in the absence
all my waking hours.
It tucks me into bed at night;
it whispers in my ears.
It gobbles up my happiness
and fills me up with tears.
It groans and aches throughout the day,
reminds me where I'm not.
It lingers in my vacant glance
and takes the empty spot.
I wish the loneliness would leave
and someone else would come.
I'm weary of the endless void;
I need to feel loved.
