Lonely Tree

Our lives never turned to perfect, things we did weren't always right
Sometimes we fussed and argued, the other times we would just fight
And in the middle of it all was our little boy
Amazed by this life with eyes full of joy
And he's the only part of you that I don't regret
And the way you made me feel I will never forget

There's a tree out in the desert, afraid of the weather
Whether or not he'll survive to see the next storm
And in a dream that he once knew, by his side his loved ones grew
Through the thick and the thin, the right and the wrong
All he knew what to do was stand and be strong
And now the days go by and the sun beats down
Can't nobody feel the shade if there ain't no one around

You made me feel just like that tree
The day you took my true son away from me
I had to up my roots and leave my home
Had to go so far away and be all alone
I had to wait my turn and sign a form
Now he is my rain and you are the storm

'Cause there's a tree out in the desert, afraid of the weather
Whether or not he'll survive to see the next storm
And in a dream that I once knew, by my side my loved ones grew
Through the thick and the thin, the right and the wrong
All I knew what to do was stand and be strong
And now the days go by and the sun beats down
Can't nobody feel the shade if there ain't no one around
