Looking Both Ways

a change of place
a place of fear
that you walk away from - avoiding eye contact

a shadow, building
growing in form
that you face away from - to focus on the light ahead

a tightness in your head
a shortness of breath
another morning of injected hope and resolution

you got this, you got this
there's nothing else to tell yourself
nothing better

the fears will fall behind
and fade away backstage
watching over like the friendly pink noise of the pouring rain

while you sit
pressing your feet
living moment to moment, living moment to moment
