Lost Eyes

By

Heartache trickles from tired eyes
And, like the anger I still fight,
Remorse swells until I capsize;
While eyes glow in the dead of night.

Wishes are my burned bridges, they
Drift like smoke in the dim starlight;
I lock my eyes and they betray,
Since eyes glow in the dead of night.

While silence dances in my ears,
My chest incinerates with spite,
To block or return to those years;
Still, eyes glow in the dead of night.

Those eyes still bore accusingly
Still posing questions that affright:
Who was the monster? You or me?
Cold eyes glow in the dead of night.

The answer comes from the mirror,
Where eyes bloodshot and glowing bright
Give the response ever clearer;
Lost eyes glow in the dead of night.
