Lost Halves

Once darkness blanketed the world,
and even when it was lifted all there was
was black.
No one could move,
all was lost,
and death became many people's
only companion.

But in the dark,
two lights
waited for a chance to shine.
The lights waited,
both of them broken,
because they were each
only half of what they should have been.

And after years of patience,
their wait was over.
The two halves connected,
and formed a single heart,
that beat for both of them.
