Love Is

love is found
it was hiding in the back of the eyes of a stranger
yet those were eyes I'd seen before
and only remembered in dreams

love is alive
she was leaning against a lamppost and framed by the glow
I was only a passenger on a bus passing by
but the road ahead seemed suddenly full of promise

love is lost
I walked in the rain and felt a presence lingering
but the wind whispered goodbye
and I fell into a hole that light could not penetrate

love is dead
I left it there next to my ancient suitcase
and a lonely guitar that resonates
a song about being hollow through and through

love is a word
placed on a feeling by people with bursting hearts
hated with a passion by those left behind
but never in vain
