Love Line

I tenderly cradle your head, brushing your hair, fixing your hat
I push you slowly so as not to rattle your aching bones
I talk to you slowly, explaining once more
Who I am and where we are
You smile and nod and I know you love me
Although you are confused and worn out
I love you beyond all measure
My dad, my beginning.

I tenderly cradle your head, brushing your hair, fixing your hat
I push you slowly so as not to rattle your new little bones
I talk to you slowly, explaining once more
Who I am and where we are
You smile and coo and I know you love me
Although you are confused and newly formed
My grandchild, my conclusion
