Love of Food

Living without you beside me is like
Living a life without shito
I suppose it can be nice
But it’s missing that little bit of spice

I mean, have you ever ordered your waakye plain?
That would be insane

You are the banku to my okro stew
Company I crave all day long
For breakfast, lunch, and dinner too

You sustain me on my hardest days
Like gari soakings in boarding school
To keep me from wasting away

I miss you like I miss mango season
Counting down the days until I see you again
Because I love you beyond all reason

You make life taste deliciously sweet
Like the aroma of friend kelewele on a Saturday evening
And after a long day you finally get to rest your feet

My love, you are the good things in life
The shito, the pepper, the spice
The stew on my rice

And to conclude
The only thing I love more than you
Is food
