Love That Isn’t Enough

O heart, an ocean of tenderness
How full of love, O husband
How kind and gentle have you been
In all my times of trouble

O womb that will not bear a child
O breast that will not give a drop
For after all my trouble
God has cursed my being

O arms of emptiness, lap of cold
My daughter who lays in the grave
That sweet smile of peace upon her
Asleep and safe forever

O house of emptiness where no child lives
The walls are still and solemn
O drawer of clothes that ne'er been touched
Worn by children naught

O Light respond and shed Thy rays
And forgive a childless woman
For I cannot adopt a child
Since it is against Your will

O Child, my dear, I feel so bad
I cannot give you a home
For all I can give Godfrey
Is my soul's everlasting love
