Love to Leave

The hues of dawn stream in through my blinds
as you sigh each syllable of my name
and punctuate it with a moan

Your eyes roll back
back to yesterday, back to the future,
back over the hill and to Mars at last

You’re high up
but I’m somewhere in the middle
lost in the diagonal designs of the golden morning light
My body floats towards space
up up away

But my mind is too rooted to Mother Earth,
to the honey sunrise that soothes my soul
and the way the tangerine sunset feeds my body
Just as She hums a tender rising melody,
you cross the finish line into ecstasy

And we lay together, skin to skin,

but planets apart.
