Love’s Fall

How swift and hard
it was--
the fall
shaken from love's reverie

Like a rag doll
in a puppy's mouth
reducing whole
to merely part

So cold
decisive--was
the chastening
left exposed
and wandering

All for love
doomed from the start--
yet pursued
so fearlessly!

As if there was
a chance at all
