Masks Hide Us

There was this girl
Who smiled everyday
Straight A student
Kindest in the school
Went out of her way to make others feel amazing
But no one saw behind her mask
She always went home to an alcoholic and abusive dad
Yelling and punching
She’d go and cry her self to sleep every night
Slitting her wrists with cool blades
Has her suicide notes written out
But she can’t do it
She worries to much that
If she goes then her mom and sister
will be beaten more and more
So she pushes through the misery
And in a few years
He leaves
She gets a scholarship
She is happier and no longer cuts or wants to kill herself.
