Matter Over Mind

Felt like a fist punching its way up my throat,
banging on the chambers of my heart
I have to get it all out
A heaviness takes over
I cave in to my cowardly ways
Scrambling to reach that abyss-like bowl that always seems to
collect my fears,
Simultaneously seizing my inhibitions.

Now the air flows unhindered
through my pipes
and the weight in my head
My chest
My stomach—
Must’ve been relinquished
because now
I can be a slave to the yearning within
Without the guilt
Without the frustration
I can be hungry
