Measure of Love

You went away, I didn't want you to go.
I knew with one word you would stay.
Your life here was empty and unfilling.
So I couldn't keep you from going away.

Over the miles, a new life awaited,
Full of promise and things you must do.
How could I keep you from all of those good things?
In the future you'd hate me and then I'd hate you.

The measure of love isn't how much I'm near you.
It can't be the reason 'I won't set you free.'
My love is strong, so strong I can let you
Live your separate life as I know it should be.
