Melancholy

Swallowed beneath clouds of silver and gray
I woke up to find it was not the same day
It'd been weeks and months since I last saw your face
and the longing and silence left a bittersweet taste

Saw a shadow outside against a far wall
before realizing its presence meant nothing at all
Just a ghost to remind of a vagrant despair
with eyes no longer seen behind vantablack hair

Something was stirring in the midst of a flood
I could feel the pain writhing deep in my blood
She was burning a black hole into my torso
leading me to strive for the truth even moreso

I'm hesitant to say it was love at first flight
There's something engaging about the thrill of night
We broke all the rules by breaking our bend
There's nothing quite like the means to an end
