Memorial to the Lost

A reflection
A sunset
Stretched along smooth, black
stone
Beauty a blanket over sorrow
Textured with names
Lives
Standing out
Real
Where the smooth image cannot cover
A child with his fingers outstretched
Reaching for the sun
Tracing the word
His sun
Disappearing
A cloak of shadows
Like losing him again
The moon white and cold
The light in the dark
The reminder of what is gone
The reminder of what will come
And the cruel reminder of what is never coming back
Letting tears fall
Awaiting the familiar glow--the feeling
that will give him the strength to come back
