memory soup

By Cin

innocent sweetness
dressed in bitter hues
down my throat-
lashes of fiery caresses
play staccatos
upon my unkempt tongue,

i swallow.

lurid eyes eagerly watch
as i taste the
saccharine nectar
with my eyes shut
to savor
the fading autumnal swirls-
soft yellows
succulent reds,

i take another.

careless crescendos
a tremulous concerto
setting my taste buds
ablaze as
the embers erupt
my heart racing,

i look down.
it’s gone.

the acrid aftertaste
in my mouth
stains my tongue, my teeth
a testament
to the futile attempts
attempts to wash away,

memory soup.

This Poems Story

I wanted to describe all my memories in one poem. I wanted to emphasize how my good memories never really stick but the residual bad ones always come back.
