Midnight

By

Midnight unraveled me
like an untied bow
I began to close my eyes
earlier
each night
in hopes that when the clock struck twelve
I wouldn't
feel
but every so often
the clock would strike
and the night struck back
ringing through my ears
through my body
the same tune
for I was not enough
I couldn't speak I love you's like he did
instead it made my stomach turn
for I was not enough
I couldn't keep my mind straight
like they could
as they spoke fluent mind twists
I sat with my arms crossed
and my shoulders down
as the clock rang
and as I said
midnight unraveled me like an untied bow
