Missed Flight

You were my everything,
my one consuming thought.
Now you’re my hardly ever,
the thought of you
sends me into tailspins
every single time.

I remember the ways you
nudged-teased-hugged-delighted,
your head and hand resting on mine,
your leg and foot touching my aching loneliness.

Every second with you
made my heart soar.
But, in the end
no matter how close we got to the edge,
we never really took off.

You were my missed flight,
I could have had you
But it’s too late.
The door has closed
And you’ve pulled away.
