Missing Factor

Losing heart
At the throw of the dice,
Miles apart
From paradise,

Second-best
Is what I'm betting for,
Tired of the test
My ex was heading for,

Damaged goods
With a silent alarm,
Switching moods -
The third time's the charm,

Or the fourth, or the fifth,
One shot will win
Before my luck shifts
And the stakes dig in.
